Advocating for Mental Health Issues: How You Can Help

The Mental Health Advocacy Coalition (MHAC) works on behalf of thousands of consumers, their friends and family members to advocate for adequate and appropriate funding and increase understanding of mental illness within the community. We know treatment works, and we know that consumers' successes depend on the support of our community leaders.

The MHAC welcomes support from our members and members of the community interested in supporting our mission. There are many ways that individuals and organizations can help the MHAC.

Write a Letter to the Editor

It has been proven that the letters to the editor section of the paper is one of the most widely read sections. We encourage you to voice your opinion by writing and submitting a letter to the editor.

Letters to the editor should be sent via e-mail, postal mail or fax. Here's a couple of tips to keep in mind when writing:

  • A short letter can be more effective than a long letter and stands a better chance of being printed.
  • Be sure to include your full name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail.
  • We encourage you to write the letter in your own words and with your own passion.
