During the month of May, the MHAC has planned a number of activities to help raise awareness about mental health and mental illness in Northeast Ohio. The activities include:

  • A partnership with Bally Total Fitness and local races to distribute 1,000 mental health awareness t-shirts and flyers. (See t-shirt design on attached page)
  • Distributing 25,000 'Mental Health By the Numbers' bookmarks to bookstores, universities and libraries in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties. (See attached bookmark)
  • A partnership with the Borders Bookstores in Cleveland Heights and Westlake, as well as the Kirtland Public Library in Lake County, to create book displays dedicated to mental health and mental illness.
  • Lou Weigele, Director of Behavioral Health at The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland and Vice-Chair of the MHAC, will be featured in the Plain Dealer's PDQ section titled '10 Minutes With...' which will run on a Monday, May 25 th.
  • A partnership with Cuyahoga Community College's SmartTV to show "The Truth About Suicide: Real Stories of Depression in College" and present a live-panel discussion at the conclusion of the movie.
  • Mental health messages on outdoor electronic display signs at CSU's Wolstein Center, Playhouse Square and The Beck Center for the Arts.
  • All Cuyahoga County and City of Cleveland employees will receive a mental health message via their email or as an insert in their pay stub.
  • A mental health article will be featured in Cleveland State University's student newspaper, The Cleveland Stater, as well as on the Counseling Center's Web site at Baldwin Wallace College.
  • News article distributed to parents of high school and college students through Parent to Parent Network about the importance of mental health.
